Ogalala is the name of a division of the Sioux Native American People who resided in the Black Hills
area of western South Dakota. Ogalala is also the name of their Siouan dialect. The Ogalala stitch is
accredited to this tribe, and is sometimes called a Butterfly stitch or the Ogalala Butterfly stitch.
