When a new beading thread appears in the market, you’d better believe I take notice! And I have to say I was giddy when I heard from my friends at Beadalon that they are launching a new product: WildFire Ultra!
WildFire vs. WildFire Ultra
What’s the difference? Glad you asked because there are several. Let’s cover them…
Diameter
- Original WildFire comes in two diameters: .006 in/0.15mm, and .008 in/0.20. That’s the equivalent of a 6lb Fireline, and a 10lb Fireline.
- WildFire Ultra comes in at a mind-bending .004 in/0.10mm diameter. It feels like a very fine thread. A 4lb Fireline is .005 in in diameter, so it’s even thinner than that. But has a 9lb break strength which is double that of 4lb Fireline!
Composition
- Original Wildfire is composed of multiple threads in the core, and a thermally bonded coating over that. It doesn’t smash down as easily as Fireline to get your needle threaded, and the coating can be scraped off through use.
- WildFire Ultra is 8 threads that are braided together with no further coating. I can’t feel the individual threads – it feels like a single piece in my hands. BUT! It can start fraying apart at the ends as you’re working with it. No big deal to me asĀ I’m not going to be weaving that last bit of tail into my project anyway.
When would you choose WildFire Ultra?
This thread is perfect for a soft drape, unlike Fireline. I’d use it for fringing on earrings, and projects where you are making multiple passes through small bead holes, like bezeling rivolis or working with size 15 seed beads. It’s literally perfect for that!
I did try it with a few regular beading projects like a herringbone rope with Size 11 and Size 8 seed beads, and it did feel a little too thin for my liking there. So I’m going to keep it around for precision work and projects that need a soft drape.
Personally, I’m super excited to have this new thread in my toolbox! I hope you’ll love it too!

I really like fringe on my earring, but fireline is just to stiff. Would like to try this new thread. Thank you, fir doing this free offer.
